What is the "VIC Number" and what is it for?

The "VIC Number" is a three or four digit, non-embossed (flat) number printed on the front or back of the credit card that provides an extra level of security for you and This number is not stored in the magnetic stripe or by, nor does it appear on sales receipts or statements.

"VIC Number" is a generic term for this security feature. Visa and Electron call this security feature "CVV2" (Card Verification Value 2). MasterCard, Eurocard, Maestro, Switch, and Solo call this security feature "CVC2" (Card Validation Code 2). American Express and Discover call this security feature "CID" (Card Identification Number).
